New chromogenic medium for detection and enumeration of E. coli and coliform bacteria in water, according to ISO 9308-1

Chromatic™ Coliform Agar ISO is the new culture medium for enumerating coliform bacteria and E. coli in water samples with low bacterial background flora to replace Lactose TTC agar in accordance to the ISO 9308-1 (effective on Sept 16th, 2014).

The bacitracin test is a rapid microbiological test using a small antibiotic-impregnated disc to identify Streptococcus pyogenes (Group A Strep) by showing its sensitivity (a "zone of inhibition") to bacitracin, distinguishing it from other beta-hemolytic streptococci like S. agalactiae, which are usually resistant, and confirming presumptive identification before further Lancefield grouping. A clear ring of no bacterial growth around the disc means the bacteria are sensitive (positive test, likely S. pyogenes), while no ring indicates resistance (negative test). 

An "O129 Disc 150 ug" is a microbiological diagnostic tool, a filter paper disc containing 150 micrograms of the vibriostatic agent 2,4-diamino-6,7-diisopropyl-pteridine phosphate (O129), used to differentiate Vibrio species from other bacteria, especially Aeromonas, by testing their sensitivity to this agent in an agar diffusion test. The Optochin test is a bacteriological test using ethylhydrocupreine hydrochloride (Optochin) discs on blood agar to differentiate Streptococcus pneumoniae (pneumococcus) from other alpha-hemolytic streptococci (viridans streptococci). S. pneumoniae is sensitive to Optochin, creating a clear zone of inhibition (lysis) around the disc, while other streptococci grow right up to the disc, making it crucial for identifying the pathogen responsible for respiratory infections
